August is the time to get away from the city and out to the coast for many of us here in Seoul, South Korea and with the introduction of our new CrossFit workouts here at The Way Martial Arts, our regular members are finding the intense cardio and explosive muscle action of the exercises is delivering the beginnings of a truly beach worthy physique!
Here at The Way, CrossFit is now underpinning our traditional and new concept martial arts programs as a solid foundation to base our Martial Skills on. The powerful program features dynamic exercises like plyometric box jumps, and Olympic lifts, non-traditional weightlifting equipment such as kettlebells, medicine balls and suspension systems like TRX.
Students are challenged to do a certain number of repetitions in a workout for time; as we’re getting fitter, our reps are going up and our times are going down! We’re all recording our results on the board at the end of our sessions so we can see our improvement.
So how is CrossFit improving our Martial Arts? Due to the high intensity and power of the exercises they effectively burn a high number of calories in a short period of time while simultaneously improving aerobic fitness and muscular growth. This is adding a much-needed intensity and diversity to our overall condition, injury prevention and strength, proving a great springboard for advanced Martial skills to flow off.
Our members are now reporting both strength and stamina improvement as well as weight loss. In combination with our Kickboxing and Grappling classes, CrossFit is proving a hit for our skills and our figures!
